OLLIE COOPER
As well as achievements within the club, we are proud to feature young Hogarth member, Ollie Cooper and his sailing successes.....
Ollie has been sailing both a two hander( RS Feva) with a friend crewing for him over the winter training with the National Squad. They are currently lying 3rd in the Grand Prix series with another set of races this weekend. Unfortunately their quest for victory at the National Championships fell apart as the wind played horrible tricks and only four races were sailed over three days to produce a very average result! However they are off to Lake Garda in July for the Feva Euros and are very keen to do well this time.....
His main campaign was to earn a place in the Laser 4.7 team for the European Championship for which he had two weekends of trials. Happily he sailed very well and earnt his place in the team (of 18) easily. He will be travelling to Helsinki, Finland in August as part of the Laser 4.7 Team GBR to compete in the European Championships. Sailors from all over Europe will be ther in small teams competing for the European Title. They will be supported by coaches provided by the RYA.
As a result of the team place he also earnt a place in the RYA Laser 4.7 Summer Squad which is providing extra coaching leading up to the event.
Ollie's mother (and long time Hogarth member) is proud to say: "Ollie's Hogarth membership is invaluable as he needs to keep his fitness levels well up leading up to the events. Six days of racing can be tough and the fitter the sailors are the better they tend to do".
Keep up the great work Ollie.
MEMBER OF THE QUARTER
I would like congratulate our member of the quarter, Liam Doyle. A magnificent effort Liam, well done!
When Liam Doyle came to me for a consultation he weighed in at 22 stones, hadn’t exercised for many years, had a hideous diet but decided it was time to change his lifestyle.
Liam went from NO exercise to exercising 5-6 X per week in the blink of an eye, changed his diet immediately and through hard work, blood sweat and tears at times, has now shed 4 stones.
Liam has fully committed himself to his Hogarth membership and the club in general, attending ALL the parties (in full force I might add), the Spinathon, making friends and even taking them out running (and drinking) and motivating them to train.
I distantly remember his first attempt at the 2 bridges. Last year we had organised a 2 bridge run and he basically went round without stopping and completed it in 70 odd minutes. I have trained him on and off since in circuits, bridge runs and cycling whilst he has put the hard graft in himself, and I am now very pleased to say he is running the 2 bridges in 40 minutes and comfortably running 3 and 4 bridges.
Liam is the deserved winner of this award and will now be the proud owner of the NEW Ipod Shuffle 4gig.
