Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a recognised, safe, effective and natural treatment for a wide range of health conditions. It targets the root cause of any illness as well as relieving symptoms. It is because of this that the benefits of acupuncture frequently include more than just relief from a particular condition. Many people find that it leads to increased vitality, better digestion and sleep, as well as an enhanced sense of overall well-being. Some people come for these benefits alone, often as a preventative measure against illness.

Some commonly treated conditions include:

• Respiratory disorders such as asthma, sinusitis, hayfever, shortness of breath, a tendency to catching colds, flu or bronchial infections.
• Skin conditions such as eczema, hives.
• Painful conditions such as headaches, migraines, arthritis, backache, neckache, sciatica, fibromyalgia.
• Digestive problems such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), diarrhoea, constipation, crohn’s disease, nausea, oesophogeal reflux.
• Gynaecological problems including PMS, endometriosis, painful, heavy, irregular or absent periods, menopausal problems, PCOS, infertility, IVF support, problems during pregnancy such as morning sickness, post-natal depression.
• Genito-urinary disorders such as cystitis, prostatitis, incontinence.
• Neurological conditions such as Shingles, Bell’s palsy, neuralgia, carpel tunnel syndrome, polyneuritis.
• Tiredness, ME, Candida, low immunity, anxiety, depression, insomnia, lack of motivation, general sense of feeling unwell, stress.
• Heart conditions, high blood pressure and paralysis from stroke.

Good health is not just the absence of pain or disease. Traditional acupuncture works to maintain the body’s equilibrium by focusing on all aspects of wellbeing, physical, mental and emotional.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the body functions as a whole and, providing the energy within the body is kept in a natural, balanced flow, good health will be maintained. This energy is known as qi (‘chee’) which runs in channels or meridians throughout the body, connecting tissues, organs and glands. Rather like an electricity supply, it powers all our physiological processes. Illness is understood to arise when this natural flow of qi becomes blocked or compromised as a result of various lifestyle factors including: emotional states, stress, diet, overwork, family health, weather conditions, pollution, infections and injuries. By inserting very fine needles at specific points along the channels of energy, the qi can be affected – for example, made to flow smoothly if stagnant, augmented if weak – and the body’s own natural, healing process can be stimulated.
