Counselling
Counselling aims to help people accept and come to terms with their difficulties and identify ways of managing more effectively. In essence, the counselling relationship allows the clients the time and freedom to explore thoughts and feelings in an atmosphere of trust and respect. By clarifying the present and releasing the past it becomes possible to connect to new possibilities for the future. Some of the area that can be helped are stress, depression, anxiety, difficulties or breakdown of a relationship, sexual difficulties, adolescent problems or perhaps being 'just stuck' is concerned with developmental issues, addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insight and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others. The counsellor's role is to facilitate the patient's work in ways in which respect's the patient's values, personal resources and capacity for self-determination.
